Primavera Portena

Performers: Tony Byrd, Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Vincent E. Thomas

In May 2005, VTDance partnered with the Ahn Trio for a collaborative new work in the Instrumental Project. The Ahn Trio, Angella (violin), Lucia (piano), and Maria (cello) are three sisters originally from Korea. They played Astor Piazzolla’s “Primavera Portena”, the ‘Spring’ movement from Las cuatro estaciones portenas (1969). They describe the music as street music, seductive, violent and sexy, tension, and passionate. This piece was commissioned and supported by Scott McCormick and the 2005 Bands of America Summer Symposium in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois.

Time Honored

Performers: Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Vincent E. Thomas

The Grandmother Project investigates the essence, role, and commonalities of grandmothers from a personal and global perspective. “Throughout the stories of my grandma, Big Ma, and of grandmothers in the US, South Africa, India, Jamaica, and China/Taiwan, one idea holds true: grandmothers are at the core of the family.” This project captures reflections and memories of loved ones through spoken text, movement, music, video and projected images.
